GIMP brush - calligraphy by barefootliam GIMP brush - calligraphy by barefootliam
An animated calligraphic brush for the GIMP 2.x, giving an effect a little like a single-stroke lettering paintbrush.

It's 45x45 pixels and a 30 degree angle. The preview has had the canvas filter applied.

Note, you may want to enable a slight jitter when painting with this brush.

For use outside deviantart ask first.

I am exploring the use of GIMP and a Bamboo Wacam pad to create a "virtual whiteboard" for my online classes, which ultimately I hope to offer for free over the web. I upgraded my version of GIMP recently and do not find their Calligraphic Brush in my toolbox. Is it possible that I could use your nice design?  Thanks. Evan B. Howard

Yes, go ahead.

You could also create a new brush, set the aspect ratio and angle, and maybe add a tiny amount of jitter. With a Wacom tablet, GIMP can detect pen pressure and (depending on the tablet) pen angle, and you can use GIMP's brush dynamics to change the size and shape of the brush, or the angle, accordingly.

Thank you for writing!

Yes - no permission is needed to use the brush for your own artwork, but thank you for asking! :D

If you mean, PhotoShop, no, sorry; if PhotoShop can use GIMP brushes I'm not aware of it.

Hmmm, this GIMP seems interesting, as heared about it's free version just a week ago and ofcourse I thought I was stupid I once bought Photoshop !! - Still I bought alot more than hjust a tool to edit pics. Calliagraphy is pretty effect, but why to put so much time on how the text looks, as the reader understand, or either don't understand what the writer had thought... For headlines, cards and other decorations, this style looks good... The shading and background looks good, but I'd take a pen, write and then scan the text to add effects.

Why take time to produce something beautiful by hand when a machine cn make something functional in a fraction of the time? Art. Why would anyone paint a picture of a scene when a photograph will do as well instead? :D

Usally I do write with a pen on paper, sometimes a felt pen and sometimes pen and ink.

PhotoShop is more powerful and more polished than GIMP.

Best,

Liam

Seen Your handwriting, Liam - amazing and beautiful texts - I just find myself strugling ages to figure out how softwares work, that's why I keep doing things backwards... :D Painters want to change the world, forever dreamers and fools who can't accept the truth a camera capture.

Beautiful writing! "Why?" A question that has been asked over a period of more than a thousand years. And each time, it is either left unanswered, give a new explanation, or simply "because that is the way it is."

Thanks :D Yes, I saved one of your poems to write out, but I've been awfuly busy of late. It'd take about a day I think, maybe more, to do it justice.

Thanks for looking!
